'Mine' - Who Said Theatre
1st April 2016
Mine by Georgia Taylforth
Who Said Theatre may only have formed at the end of 2015, but they certainly don't waste time: this is their third play already, written by their very own, Georgia Taylforth, and directed by Blake Barbiche.
The company is formed of graduates from Guildford School of Acting and their aim is to provide a platform for all different genres. Mine uncovers the journeys of three couples into pregnancy and asks questions such as 'Does anyone really belong to us?' The couples range from a tinder match, a long term relationship and two best friends. Through one way or another, they all end up pregnant, and the play explores how their relationships change when this life changing event occurs.
Speaking about her debut play, Georgia said, 'I had been a graduate for about seven months and I had just finished my first contract. I had never really noticed the age gap of being a mature student, but suddenly I felt very much in limbo. Half my Facebook timeline was pictures from nights out, the other half was friends announcing the arrival of their second child. I wondered whether there was a perfect time to settle down and even after writing the play, I don't think I know the answer to that question.'
The cast of Mine, whose credits include Hollyoaks, Secret Cinema and Redefining Juliet, is formed of graduates from GSA and Oxford School of Drama and rehearsals for the play are going well! The team are able to go back and use space at GSA to rehearse; as Georgia says, they 'couldn't thank the teachers and student network enough for all the help'.
You can catch Mine by Georgia Taylforth at The Courtyard Theatre from 12th April - 16th April. Standard tickets are £12, £10 for concessions.
