January 2016 Roundup
1st February 2016
Jan 2016 brought us Riot Act’s ‘Versions’, Whit Hertford’s month of Shakespeare, to The Courtyard. We asked Whit to curate this season to correspond with Shakepeare400, an event designed to commemorate Shakespeare’s 400 year legacy. He wrote and directed in this season alongside other writers and directors who brought a wealth of different experiences, coming from different artistic backgrounds.
This season was, to Hertford, a “resuscitation”; it saw five fresh new plays inspired by Shakespeare plots with the same universal themes plucked from the plays. It was truly a season flowing with talent, vibrancy and thought. Thank you to Riot Act for kick-starting the Shakespeare400 with a bang. Also, rumour has it that Riot Act will be taking the stages of London this year… Now on with the rest of the year! February is following this season of resuscitation with more inventive and rousing revivals of classics, starting with Nelson Bond’s adaptation of Animal Farm by George Orwell, a relevant piece making it’s home in our Main House with the resourceful and exciting Tree Folk Theatre.
