Mrs. Watts lives with her son and daughter-in-law in a cramped one bedroom apartment.  Alone with her memories she has just a single wish...to see one more time her childhood home of Bountiful.

The Trip to Bountiful by Horton Foote is one of America's most popular works for the stage, a truly iconic piece that plays a prevalent role in the repertoire of classic American theatre.  The play was first produced on Broadway in 1953 starring Lillian Gish.  In 1985 Geraldine Page won the Academy Award for Best Actress in Mr. Foote's screen adaptation.

Horton Foote won his first Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird (1962).  Tender Mercies (1983) starring Robert Duvall  brought Foote his second Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. In 1995 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play The Young Man from Atlanta.

"Horton Foote was a theatrical magician. He mined the same vein, gnawed over and over at the bone dug from the Southeast Texas soil of his youth to create oral stage histories. The portraits he created reflected a unique absorption in place. The stories he told, though deceptively simple accounts of ordinary people's lives, have also been astute commentaries on the changes in the American social landscape." -Curtain Up-
