FRONT OF HOUSE/EVENTS MANAGER - JOB DESCRIPTION
OVERVIEW
The Front of House/Events Manager will be responsible for providing a high standard of customer service in order to achieve and maintain customer loyalty from the general public and visiting companies, as well as to maximize revenue from the Iambic Bar. The post holder will report to the Artistic Director and work closely with the senior management team. He/she will be in the front line of customer liaison.
Key Objectives
¨ To maintain a friendly and safe environment for all theatre visitors
¨ To give strong and effective management of the Front of House Team
¨ To develop and encourage high standards of customer service
¨ To control and report on costs (staff and stock control)
¨ To manage the Front of House sales facilities
¨ To Duty Manage the majority of events programmed by The Courtyard.
Staff Responsibilities
¨ Front of House/Ushers Team
¨ Bar staff
Main Duties
¨ To uphold and enforce the relevant terms of the Theatre License as set down by the local authority with reference to the health, safety and comfort of all members of the public within the premises.
¨ To provide a high level of customer services dealing with all comments and points raised by the public in Front of House areas and following up these points by immediate action or in consultation.
- To run the FOH and sell tickets and work behind the bar with the bar staff.
Management
¨ To recruit, train and manage the Front of House team including ushers, bar staff.
¨ To support the Duty Manager in administrating the conference and private hire business, i.e day use.
¨ To work with the Marketing teams of The Courtyard and visiting companies on direct mailing and other activities.
¨ To work with all departments in the delivery of Education and Outreach programmes
that includes working with young people and speaking about your role.
¨ Working with all other departments, to be enthusiastic and proactively contribute to the theatre.
Administration
¨ To monitor and control the department staff wages budgets.
¨ To maintain staff records for: attendance, sickness, holiday, etc
¨ To devise effective rotas and complete the weekly Front of House team payroll spreadsheet.
¨ To liaise with visiting company managers and provide detailed information to all departments on performance related issues.
¨ With the Duty Manager, to design and deliver a programme of training to the Front of House team.
¨ To be responsible for the implementation of the Theatre's equal opportunities policy.
- Keeping records of staff diversity and addressing any issues that are raised by staff or customers
Person Specification
We are looking for:
A confident and self motivated person with experience in a management role, ideally within a theatre or arts venue or alternatively within a small catering or customer service business.
He/She will be computer literate, able to use: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Explorer. Experience of using financial spreadsheets, reports and strategic plans would be desirable.
The successful candidate will have experience of managing other staff and be able to deputise when needed.
He/she will be committed to assisting in increasing income from the Front-of-House area (especially bar) and take an active role in improving the theatre's access policy.
Working as part of a small team the candidate will be expected to have an open and constructive attitude to all areas of the Theatre operation and be willing to take part on every level.
First Aid Qualification is desirable but training can be given.
Hours: 45 hours per week, mainly Tues to Sun,
Afternoon/evening work
Salary: £!6.5kpa - £18kpa (dependant on experience)
Holiday: 20 Days per year pro rata, taken when the operational requirements of the Theatre allow.
