Gil trained at the Webber Douglas Academy as an LCC Scholarship student and graduated in 1961, winning The Rodney Millington Spotlight Award for outstanding performances in his final year. He spent the next two years working for the Barry O'Brien repertory companies and in 1963 went to New York with John Dexter's famous production of Arnold Wesker's Chips with Everything. He returned in '64 and began working regularly in West End stage productions and toured regularly in the UK and abroad. He worked again for John Dexter in 88/89 in his highly acclaimed productions of Julius Caesar and Creon for the British Council which ended with a triumphant seven city tour across India. He has worked for many prestigious companies including the Cambridge Theatre Company, New Shakespeare Company Oxford Playhouse, and the English Shakepeare Company. He has appeared in scores of television productions beginning in 1961 and played Peter Metcalfe in the BBC soap opera The Newcomers for most of 1969. Over the past forty years he has worked in every branch of the profession passing through the many ages of man and enjoyed a long and happy career as a jobbing actor. In recent years his stage roles have ranged from Colonel Galotti in Lessing's Emilia Galotti, Vanya in Uncle Vanya, Inspector Truscott in Joe Orton's Loot Victor Velasco in Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park, The Vicar in Confusions by Aykbourn, Sir Alexander Wengrove in The Roaring Girl by Thomas Middleton, He has just finished playing Professor Serebryakov in an another, new and highly praised production of Uncle Vanya for Act Provocateur International.
